I used to get defensive whenever someone would call my collection junk, but I realized it was more about their lack of understanding than about my stuff being worthless. Im really into vintage toys and action figures, and it took time for my family to see that these things have a history and cultural value. I started by educating them on how collectors value certain pieces, and eventually, they came around. They might still not fully get it, but they respect it more now.

I keep my collection in one room so it doesnt become a point of tension.

A big part of my journey as a collector has been showing my family that these items are more than just junk. I started inviting them to conventions and trade shows where they could see firsthand how passionate other people are about collecting. Once they saw the community and how serious the hobby could be, their perspective started to shift. It also helps to talk about the long-term valuesome of the things I own have appreciated quite a bit over time.
